One of the most rewarding—and yet most challenging—careers in the world of computing is that of the computer software engineer. And it’s precisely because it is so challenging (and yet so necessary) that this is a tremendous career growth field. And one which pays an outstanding salary.

The computer software engineer develops and maintains computer programs, those instructions that you install which control everything your computer does. Most software engineers work on a large variety of projects. They work, for instance, in industry, manufacturing, government offices, engineering and educational institutions.

Sometimes the software engineer will work on improving a computer system already in use. If he’s asked to develop a program, he will first analyze the given task and apply computer science techniques, mathematical analysis, and engineering, to produce the best solution. The software engineer then prepares systems flow charts which show how information will flow through the computer and the peripheral equipment in order to accomplish the designated task. Finally, the engineer creates an outline of the program.

In a software company, the engineer will actually instruct computer programmers to write the code which will make up the program; he then intercedes only if the programmers encounter problems. After the program is developed, the software engineers sometimes tests it for problems it and examines it for errors in data or logic.

In most cases, an employer will require that a software engineer has a college degree in computer science or in software engineering. A graduate degree is sometimes required, especially in more demanding jobs. And of course, knowledge of the current major program languages is a must. There are several certification courses that will train the software engineers in programming languages, including C++, XML and Java.

A high school student or other person interested in entering this career path should study math, physics and computer science. He or she should try to take computer programming courses or to learn programming languages in their spare time.

In 2004, the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated there were 800,000 people working as software engineers. That number is likely pushing close to one million now—and still growing. In fact, the field is expected to continue growing faster than other career paths through the year 2014. A skilled software engineer can expect to make $80,000 to $100,000 or even a bit more. It’s a lucrative career field and quite fulfilling for someone who enjoys being on the computer anyway,.

As computers continue their take-over of the civilized world, the need to keep them secure grows. This makes the job of network security administrator one of this decade’s growing career paths. And one of the better-paying ones, as well.

The need for network security professionals is obvious. Digital information is breakable, bendable and quite open to theft. Viruses and hackers have reached epidemic proportions in any country where there are a lot of computers and adequate Internet access. A network security administrator has the skills necessary to keep information safe and secure from all such threats.

All reliable studies show that this is a good time to get involved in the field of network security. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, for instances, is predicting that in the next seven years, positions in the field of network security will grow faster than the average in other career fields. And while it’s theoretically possible to get into this field by sheer knowledge and experience, increasingly, education and certifications are required. Those who have additional certificates and training are the ones most sought after by the better-paying businesses.

And make no mistake: The salary potential as a network security administrator is significant. Generally, the annual pay runs between $60,000 and $100,000. The average is nearly $80,000 in the United States.

The network security administrator is responsible for designing, developing and implementing the company’s computer security policies. After this system has been established, the administrator enforces compliance with the security policies. He also manages the hardware which enables the company’s network to operate, such as the routers and switches. It’s also the security administrator’s job to prevent hackers from being able to enter the company’s system by maintaining security features such as a firewall, VPN and IDS.

Increasingly, a CNSA, or Certificate in Network Security Administration, is required for the security administrator. A minimum Associates Degree and often a Bachelors Degree in Computer Systems or related field is required. Nearly all courses in this field will train the aspiring security administrator in the areas of firewall technologies, security risks, remediation, network security design,, network implementation, and troubleshooting techniques.

The network security administrator’s career path is an exciting one who enjoys the challenge of protecting computers from the new breed of workplace adversaries—and for the person willing to learn the skills necessary.

Some career fields, the Great Recession has caused severe damage to; others, it has helped. One that has benefited from the recession is that of the commercial loan officer. More people and businesses now need the loan officer’s assistance to get a much-needed financial boost.

A loan officer works with individuals and businesses to assist them with acquiring loans for their personal or professional needs. The loan officer evaluates loans, makes needed recommendations for his clients, and authorizes loans for commercial needs, real estate, or credit.

A loan officer works primarily for a financial institution such as a credit union, commercial bank,, or savings institution. He typically specializes in one of three different areas: consumer, commercial, or mortgage. Consumer loan officers assist individuals with personal loans, auto loans and home equity loans. Commercial loan officers help businesses get loans for business expansions or equipment upgrades. And mortgage loan officers help with the purchase of residential or commercial property or with refinancing a current mortgage.

A loan officer might work in either a large or small financial institution. Those who work in smaller branches are sometimes responsible for all loan activity. In a larger financial institution, there could be several loan officers. In this case, each will specialize in just one specific area of loans.

A loan officer should be a highly motivated individual with the capacity of taking on several tasks at the same time. He interacts constantly with others: with clients, help them find a loan that best suits them, and with staff, ensuring that all paperwork is correctly completed.

Although there are a few exceptions,, nearly all loan officers have a B.A. In either economics, finance or some related field. The few who do not have a college education have started off as customer service representatives, or, more often, as tellers, and they advance to the position of loan officer after working in the financial industry for several years. All loan officers will have some kind of experience in either banking, sales or lending.

Other requirements to get into this field include knowledge of computers, outstanding interpersonal skills, knowledge of the banking industry, and familiar with banking-related computer applications. Although there are no licenses required, some additional training might be required for a loan officer working for a brokerage or mortgage bank. And for loan officers whose job is solely reviewing and approving loans, there are some available certification programs.

And the payback for this training and experience: an average annual salary of more than $51,000.

It’s been two decades since personal computers started appearing in the common household, and since then, computer-related careers have continued to become more prominent. And there’s no end in site. One of the most in-demand careers is that of a network administrator.

A network administrator is responsible for overseeing computer networks, ensuring that they operate as they should. A computer network is simply a grouping of computers which communicate with one another via one central unit known as the server. The server stores programs, files and other information. A business network could be as small as just two or three PCs or could host hundreds—even thousands. In fact, the Internet is a network—the world’s largest.

The network administrator is responsible for configuring and managing an existing network. He is sometimes responsible for customizing the network to a company’s needs by connecting the software and hardware needed to the network. After the network has been configured, the administrator adds programs (for instance, e-mail) which is needed by the company employees.

While you might think that a larger network requires more work from the network administrator than the smaller network, this is not necessarily true. In fact, the smaller network usually requires more duties of the administrator, since there’s nobody else to handle these chores.

The administrator also develops, installs and maintains emergency back-up systems which protect the business in the event of an emergency. He also controls each user’s access to the network by setting up passwords for them and determining which programs, files and features each user is permitted to use.

A network administrator must have a strong background in computer science, math and sciences; real-world experience working with computers is also helpful. A college degree in math, engineering or computer science is not technically required for a career in network administration. However, realistically, it’s hard to advance without a degree. Also, administrators should become familiar with as many network operating systems as possible, including Microsoft, Unix, Novell, etc.

Several companies that produce network software also offer training and certification in network administration. For instance, network software maker Novell offers a Certified Novell Administrator (CAN) certification for administrators who pass their training courses. A company that hires a network administrator from outside will almost certainly require such certification or proof of experience in administering a network successfully.

Network administration requires good organizational and logical thinking skills, both to set up and administer a network and to diagnose and solve problems. Administrators must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines when required. Because they may have to work with users who have little or no technical knowledge, they must be able to communicate complex and unfamiliar ideas easily.

The most recent statistics available for the network administrator career was published by the .S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in2004. It showed that at the time 278,000 people were employed in the United States in the area (We can reasonably expect that by now, the number is close to 300,000). The field is expected to grow faster than the average of all other occupational fields through the year 2014. The median income is $72,000.

Thinking about a career as an emergency room doctor? There are many factors to consider as you determine whether or not this occupation will be a good fit for you. Aside from the many years of schooling required prior to entering the field, you also must make sure this is a job you will feel passionate about for a long time to come. Emergency room physicians treat patients who need immediate care and must be trained in advanced cardiac life support , trauma care, and management of other life-threatening situations. Working in the ER can be a very high stress job that requires the ability to think fast, remain calm, and maintain a sense of compassion as you deal with a wide variety of physical, mental, and emotional challenges each and every shift. But it can be an incredibly rewarding occupation, as well. If you thrive on variety, genuinely love helping people and being of service to others, then you may be just the right person for the job.

Make sure to do plenty of research on the pros and cons of working as an ER doctor before coming to a firm decision. There are plenty of great resources out there and it will be worth your while to thoroughly investigate and gather all the information you can so that you feel confident this is the best career path for you. One great website by an experienced emergency room doc is www.erbook.net . Kevin Pezzi, MD, is an ER physician and author of True Emergency Room Stories. He offers a down-to-earth, real-life look into all aspects of working in the emergency room and will give you some helpful insight into whether you are a good candidate for this particular brand of medicine. Take the time to gather information from multiple sources so that you can make a balanced assessment.

Because the ER must remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, emergency room doctors need to be available to work a variety of shifts with extended hours. People who are adaptable, possess great people skills, enjoy interacting with folks from all cultures and backgrounds, respond quickly, and exude a sense of balance, while being able to elicit trust from their patients, can do very well in this field.

Since much of their time on the job is spent dealing with traumatic circumstances, many emergency room physicians have learned to alleviate on-the-job stress by making sure they lead an active life outside of the work environment. Physical exercise, sports, and music are great ways to maintain good mental and physical health so that when they are on the job, doctors feel fresh and have an upbeat attitude.

The emergency room can be a challenging place filled with sights, sounds, and experiences that no one in the outside world will ever be exposed to. But if the gratification felt from knowing you just saved someone’s life fills you will a compelling passion to reach out and help others, then a career as an emergency room doctor may be just the job for you.

The fact that Ultrasound technicians are becoming more and more important in the medical field with each passing day cannot be denied. It’s a highly rewarding job, but at the same time it can test your nerves too. Getting the job can be a tough endeavor since the job interview of Ultrasound Technician is not that easy and only those who have full command over the subject are able to answer the tough interview questions, can make it to the job. A career as an ultrasound technician can be rewarding, but at the same time it can be challenging as well because the job of an ultrasound technician is demanding. Hospitals can be asking too much of their ultrasound technicians’ time. There are different experiences with different patients. Patients’ personalities can vary from quiet and sweet, to impolite and abusive.

What can be asked in the interview? The answers to the question asked can really make the difference between two candidates competing for the same position. It is likely that the interviewer may ask the candidate a very basic but important question regarding types of studies for which ultrasound is used. Answer to this basic question is simple but many of us may not know that the studies for which ultrasound is commonly used are related to abdomen, gynecology, Kidney and pancreas texture, breast and to study the thyroid. This is the most comprehensive and to the point answer which would certainly make the difference as it almost covers all the studies for which ultrasound is used. Another question that can be asked at interview is that what specialization the candidate has in Ultrasound? There are numbered of specialized fields in ultrasound and ultrasound technicians may decide to get expertise in a precise sort of ultrasound. However, Ultrasound is well known for gynecology related matters. It is a common perception that Ultrasound of Obstetrics is an easy job. it might appear to be, but those who are into this field of specialization share that it is not just “knowing about the baby.” actually it is more than that an ultrasound of this kind can be very nerve testing as well. The candidates for Ultrasound Technician job may be asked about their usefulness to the Doctor Ultrasound technician are helpful for surgical practices. They facilitate the radiologist with a detailed image of where the catheter is passed. They can prove very beneficial in assisting for identifying and diagnosing of various problems that might come across during the examination. Possibly, the usefulness of Carotid Ultrasound can be asked. Very few may know that Carotid ultrasound is a very common vascular ultrasound, especially for fat, diabetic, and patients who have nicotine intake via smoking.

Questions related to ethics of Ultrasound Technician. Ethics are very important part of medical related fields. Apart from being asked questions regarding the field some questions regarding ethics can also be asked from the candidate appearing for the interview. Patients are interacting more with an ultrasound technician than any other person of this cadre. This places patients in a situation where they are likely to share their life tales with the ultrasound technician, and the ultrasound technician should maintain confidentiality with those patients.

Pre Cautionary Knowledge and Other Information of Ultrasound Technician who might be tested. Ultrasound technicians are trained about correct scanning methods and ergonomically correct placing and positioning. Hospitals provide equipment that reduced the chances of the injury to the sonographer. However, injuries may still occur, however. Some ultrasound technicians right arm and shoulder stronger than left one.

Nursery, the only part of a hospital that doesn’t smell of medicines, the place where the cries are not related with pain; it is where the new life that has come to earth is taken care of. Hospital Nursery is where the new born babies are taken care of after they are born. After the baby is born, he is taken to the nursery where he is kept for one to two hours, till he becomes warm and stable.

If you’ve decided that a job as a nurse in the hospital nursery is the job for you, you’ve chosen a career that is both rewarding and noble. But wouldn’t you like to know what your day on the job would look like first?

What goes on in a nursery? In the nursery, the baby undergoes a thorough medical examination, by a Pediatrician and a Nursery Nurse. The baby is kept warm to bring his body temperature to normal since neo- natal babies will have low body heat as the heat is used for the functioning of the vital organs. The baby is kept there till he can maintain a temperature of 98degress on his own.

The nurse will make sure that the baby is not hypoglycemic, that is low blood sugar levels. For this blood is drawn from the feet. This is followed by a detailed body examination to find any visible abnormalities. After being satisfied with the physical condition of the baby, an injection of vitamin K is given, which helps in blood coagulation. Tests will be done for PKU and sickle celled anemia. Once the baby reaches the 98degree temperature, he is bathed with a sponge and after nicely wrapping in blankets, he is taken to his mother.

If the mother wants to sleep at night, babies are sometimes sent to nurseries where a nurse will look after him. This is what happens in a level I nursery.

A nursery could have two more levels. The second level is called SCN (Special Care Nursery). This is for babies who have special needs. The babies with special needs are those born premature or having some illness. They are normally kept at the nursery to administer medicines, or IV therapy and to prevent infections. Once the baby becomes stable, he is sent home. The third level is for babies who are critically ill and needs high technology devices to support them. This is known as the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit or NICU. The babies who are born too premature are kept here.

Who looks after the baby in the nursery? A Pediatrician will examine the baby in a level I nursery and prescribe the shots to be taken after checking the vital functions. A nursery nurse takes care of the baby. While taking care of the baby physically, she will be taking care of the mother emotionally, building a bond between the mother and the baby. A nursery nurse will help the mother in breast-feeding the baby and will get her accustomed to motherhood. So in additional to being a nurse, she plays the role of a counselor, friend and guide to the new mother. A Nursery Assistant will help the nurse in looking after the nursery.

Who can qualify as a Nursery Nurse? To become a Nursery Nurse you should have qualifications in child care like CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education, BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD), or NVQ Level 3 in CCLD. No special qualifications are needed for a Nursery Assistant. Being a nursery nurse is a rewarding career both financially and emotionally.

If you’re a nurse, attaining a career in an intensive care unit (ICU) for burn patients will ensure that you enjoy high job security and high job satisfaction for years to come. How can you increase your chances of getting a position in this highly rewarding field? Give a great job interview, of course!

Once you’ve arranged an interview with the hospital of your choice, follow the advice below, and you’re sure to be a top contender for the position you want most.

Research Your Future Employer. Learn as much as you can about the hospital for which you’re interviewing through its website. In particular, familiarize yourself with its burn unit to make sure that you have the credentials necessary.

Hospital requirements for intensive care burn unit nurses vary. Some hire registered nurses and then train them. Others require ICU experience. Certifications and degrees that will make you particularly attractive to a burn unit include the following:

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)

· Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS)

· Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)

· Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN)

· Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

· Master’s in Nursing with a specialization in Burns and Emergency Trauma

· Master’s in Nursing with a specialization in Critical Care

Spruce Up Your Résumé. If you have earned—or you’re in the process of earning—any of the above certifications or degrees, be sure that is reflected on your résumé. Also, if your résumé does not include your references, including their full names, titles, addresses and phone numbers or email addresses, be sure to add them. This information will be needed by both Human Resources and the hiring manager. Although you probably submitted it with your application, you should nevertheless bring extra copies of your résumé to the interview along with copies of your letters of reference.

Assemble Your Credentials. In addition to your résumé, your letters of reference and your list of questions, take copies of the following items with you as well:

· A copy of your nursing license.

· A copy of your notice of passing board scores.

· Your addresses for the last seven years. (You may be asked to allow a criminal background check. If so, these will be needed.)

· Your most recent cumulative grade report. (If you haven’t taken your licensing exam, a copy of your transcript will indicate your likelihood of earning a passing score.)

Make a Few “Dry Runs.” Before the interview, practice answering questions your future employers may ask. Often, candidates must describe their strengths and weaknesses, explain why they should be hired, talk about their most significant achievements or discuss their ability to work with others. Consider how you could best answer these questions and others you think you’ll be asked.

If you have not been to location you’ll be interviewed at previously, practice getting there. Go at about the same time your interview will occur so that traffic conditions will be similar. On the day of your interview, it’s best if you arrive 10 to 15 minutes early.

Radiate Confidence and Poise. Being well prepared for your interview should reduce your anxiety so that you can interact with your future employer in a friendly, natural manner. Be sure to smile, make eye contact and answer questions directly without fidgeting or rambling. Remember: An important part of your job will be interacting with patients in a friendly manner, so your personality very definitely comes into play. Also make references to your qualifications and your experience in your answers and indicate your specific knowledge of the hospital and its burn unit if applicable. Near the end of the interview, pose one or two of the questions you’ve prepared.

Give Thanks. One to two days after your interview, send a thank-you note or email to your interviewer. Include not only your gratitude but also your continued interest in the position. Close your letter or email with your contact information.

Following the above suggestions is sure to make your interview experience less stressful and more successful.

Being an x-ray technician is for many people a fulfillment of a career goal; it is also a long process. The X-ray technician is a well trained healthcare worker who produces x-ray film, which is later used by a doctor to determine a medical diagnosis. The increasing population of the elderly has increased the number of people who require medical attention. This in turn has created a boom in demand for the x-ray technician. As with many other healthcare workers, they are very much in demand in hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centers, etc. Becoming an x-ray technician is neither the easiest nor the hardest healthcare career path. To appear to be qualified on your resume, you’ll want to seek training through an accredited medical program. There are radiography programs which lead to an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or to a professional certificate. One of the primary certifications is through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The curriculum of the x-ray technician includes study of radiation protection, patient care procedures, pathology, principles of imaging, medical ethics, etc. The x-ray technician is also given a fair amount of training regarding the anatomy and physiology of the human body to get proper imaging for medical diagnostic purposes. X-ray technicians must be well versed with the safe use of radioactive materials for the safety and welfare of themselves and the patients. Keeping this is mind, many states have made it mandatory for the x-ray technicians to have a license or certification. Professionals who are already working in the healthcare field, rather than dropping their careers, can take up the one-year x-ray technicians program. This program is mostly pursued by those who wish to change their careers or even to expand their medical knowledge on this field. Two year associate degree programs are the most pursued programs in the US. The two year program is followed by voluntary certification by ARRT. Three to four years bachelor level programs are for those who have a fair amount of experience in the radiology field and who wish to advance into supervisory or administrative positions. Many vocational schools also offer career programs in Radiology; however, before you sign up, do your homework and look for accredited programs in your area. Non-accredited programs frequently don’t qualify for certification. Try to look for the programs accredited by The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), the field’s most respected accrediting body. Earning a degree or a certificate from JRCERT accredited institute makes you eligible to become a member of ARRT. Many employers prefer technicians who are registered by the ARRT. ARRT registration is also mandatory in many states for the x-ray technician’s licensure. To maintain ARRT registration and X-ray technician certification, students are required to complete 24 continuing education credits every two years to maintain their certification. In the field of radiology, there are common x-ray technicians as well as specialized x-ray technicians; specialized x-ray technicians are experts in their own fields like diagnostic imaging practices, including sonograms, computerized axial tomography, mammography, computed tomography (CAT) scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), or fluoroscopic imaging. Are one of these for you? If so, it all starts with the training.

If you regularly pass up the Big Mac for the vegetables and whole grains–or even if you just like encouraging other people to eat healthy, then you might be cut out for a career as a nutritionist. If so, here’s some good news: This is expected to be a growing career field for at least the next decade or two, and it pays pretty well. Sounds delicious, right? Let’s take a look at who the nutritionist is.

The nutritionist is the person who creates the nutrition and meal programs for others. These could be patients in hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient care programs, schools, even jails and prisons. A nutritionist sometimes works as a public health nutritionist or a nutrition educator. They’re sometimes employed by local, state or federal advocacy groups, health-related government agencies, wellness centers, and health or athletic clubs. they’re sometimes involved in overseeing food assistant programs, or working with the marketing departments for various food companies, restaurant chains, supermarket chains, or commodity groups. Other possible jobs include writing nutrition articles for magazines or newsletters, developing diet analysis software, and others.

Job Outlook & Career Path
The fact that there are so many different job possibilities for the nutritionist partially accounts for why it’s considered a career path with a great outlook. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of nutritionist jobs is expected to increase nine percent by 2016 (www.bis.gov). The average salary currently is almost $47,000. Those who work in outpatient care especially make higher salaries.

Those who have equipped themselves with higher levels of education will have more doors open to them. A Bachelors Degree in a food-related field such as nutrition is practically a requirement by any employer. Acceptable study programs include food, nutrition, institution management, physiology or biology. Those who are interested in research-oriented careers, such as those studying the effects of proper and improper nutrition, should have a Doctorate or Master’s degree. In addition, any nutritionist who wants to practice in a clinical or community setting will also need to be licensed or certified, depending on the state.

Incidentally, a dietitian is not the same as a nutritionist. Consider a dietitian a more extensively trained nutritionist, with a Bachelor’s Degree legally required, and a Master’s required to perform research.

So if your hunger is more toward a great career in health than it is toward the latest junk food, consider traveling the road to becoming a nutritionist.
